Sanjiaotang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
West Henan. The Sanjiaotang Fm was named by Han Yingshan, Li Shengsi and Yan Lianquan in 1952. The typical section is Sinian section in Sigou and Cuizhuang (Hongjian) in Ruyang County, Henan Province. Second (2/3) formation in Luoyu Gr.
Synonym: (三教堂组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Sanjiaotang Fm is a suite of quartzose sandstone, dominated by medium-grained quartzose sandstone, the lower part is intercalated with banded siltstone and fine quartzose sandstone (bearing ferruginous spots), and the top part is glauconitic sandstone, bearing ripple marks and rill marks ripples. The basal part consists of a bed of white siltstone and dark purple ribbon siltstone. The thickness varies from 52 to 96 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It rests conformably on the underlying Cuizhuang Fm.
Upper contact
The top part (glauconitic quartzose sandstone) is conformably overlain by the Luoyukou Fm.
Regional extent
West Henan. The Sanjiaotang Formation is mainly distributed south of the line from Xin'an County to Sanmenxia City, and on the north, it is lacking. The formation is distributed in Mianchi (31 m), Ruyang (52-96 m), Wufoshan, Yanshi County (68 m), Xiaodingshan, Fangcheng (103 m), Wuyang (158 m thick).
